Abstract:
Papaya (
Carica papaya L.) is belong to family Caricaceae and is a major tropical fruit grown commercially in India. Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Hawaii, Thailand, South Africa, Philippines, Indonesia and Taiwan. India is the largest producer of papaya. An experiment was conducted in a Random Block Design at Horticulture Research Centre of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut (U.P). To Evaluation of the field suitability of 10 papaya varieties (5 lines x 5 testers) and 25 their crosses give here in line of there as in and carried out with their replication as per recommended control practices. Each entry consists of five plants. The experiment was replicated three times, thereby make in a total plant population of 525 in a crop season. It was observed that the variety
Papaya P S -1 performed best by yielding of fruits per plant followed by Pant Papaya -1, Pusa Giant. The least fruit weight was recorded in Pusa Nanha. Among quality parameters TSS (
oBrix) was found to be maximum in Pant Papaya-1 followed by Pusa Delicious, Papaya P S-1. The least value of TSS was recorded in Pusa Nanha. Papaya P S-1 and Pant Papaya-1 were found to be suitable for large scale planting in western plains of Uttar Pradesh.
