Abstract: Pineapple is one of the most important tropical fruit grown in the north – eastern part of India. India is the fifth largest producer of pineapple with annual output of about 1.2 millions. The ministry of commerce and industry has recently sanctioned the Agri-export zone scheme for the entire NER at Tripura. Under this scheme, enhanced international market access would be provided to farmers besides necessary infrastructure, flow of credit, transport assistance and other facilities for promoting agricultural export through pineapple cultivation. Inspite of having numerous developments in the field of food processing most of the fruits grown is not getting processed which leads to post harvest losses. Ultimately this leads to less revenue for farmers in turn of their investment. So, there is a need to make cultivators aware of recent developments in the field of pineapple processing and related value added products. The full potential of pineapple cultivation in the region is yet to be tapped and for this, efforts are being put in various organization and the government both at central and state level, to help the growers in marketing their produce, which is considered to be the key factor for boosting this industry.
