Abstract:
The field study was carried out by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jagatsinghpur to assess the yield gap of toria (Brassica campestris var. toria) through frontline demonstration in East and South Eastern Coastal Plain Zone of Odisha. Toria is one of the most important oilseeds crop after harvest of kharif rice in rainfed areas of Jagatsinghpur. Productivity of the crop is lower in farmer’s field due to several constraints. Non-adoption of improved technologies is one of the major causes for its lower productivity. Frontline demonstrations on improved technologies were conducted at 150 framers’ fields of Jagatsinghpur district during Rabi season of 2019-20. Improved crop management practices recorded the highest mean seed yield of 8.5 q ha-1 which was 70.58 per cent higher than the yield obtained with farmers practice (2.5 q ha-1). The technological gap, extension gap and technological index were recorded 1.5 q ha-1, 6.0 q ha-1 and 15 per cent respectively. Due to adoption of improved package of practices, demonstration plots recorded higher average seed yield over local check.
