Abstract:
The chosenmedicinal plant namely as Brassica oleracea and Aristolochia bracteolata leaves.Hence, the antioxidant activity of Brassica oleracea and Aristolochia bracteolata leaves were not evaluated. The aim of the study was to investigate the free radical scavenging activity of Brassica oleracea and Aristolochia bracteolata leaves through DPPH, totalantioxidant assay, superoxide, metal chelation and iron reducing power activity at differentconcentrations (20, 40, 60 and 80µg/ml). Throughout the studies leaves extract showed marked antioxidant activity. Theantioxidant activity was found to be concentration dependent and may be attributed to the presence ofbioflavonoids content in the Brassica oleracea and Aristolochia bracteolata leaves. Overall, the Brassica oleracea and Aristolochia bracteolata leaves extract is a source ofnatural antioxidants which might be helpful in preventing the progress of various oxidative stressmediated diseases including aging. Among the two plants, the activity of Aristolochia bracteolata is near to standard as ascorbic acid.
