Abstract:
A field experiment on the influence of plant growth regulators on flowering behavior and vase life of rose (
Rosa hybrid L,) cv, "Gladiator" was conducted at Floriculture Research Scheme, Regional Horticulture Research Station, ASPEE College of Horticulture and Forestry, Gujarat Agricultural University, Navsari during 2002-2003. Four different concentrations of GA
3 (100, 150, 200 and 250 mg/l), BA (50, 100, 150 and 200 mg/l) and ethrel (200, 300, 400 and 500 mg/l) was compated with control. Thirteen treatments along with control were laid out in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with and three replications. The highest weight of single flower (26.3 g) was obtained with GA
3 250 mg/l. The maximum number and weight of petals per flower were recorded in GA
3 250 mg/l. Number of flowers per plant was obtained highest with GA
3 250 mg/l which was at par with GA
3 200 mg/l and number of flowers per hectare was increased with an application GA
3 250 mg/l. Highest shelf life and vase life of cut rose flower was obtained with GA
3 250 mg/l.
