Abstract:
The present investigation entitled “Heritability and genetic advance among yield and related quality traits in rice genotypes (Oryza sativa L.)” was undertaken with twelve parents and their 66 F1ʼs crosses for 18 component characters. A two years’ study during kharif 2011-12 and 2012-13 with 78 genotypes genotypes were evaluated in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications at Crop Research Center of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut. Observations were recorded on ten randomly selected plants in the three replications for eighteen traits viz., days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of productive tillers per plant, panicle length, number of branches per panicle, number of grains per panicle, biological yield per plant, grain yield per plant, harvest index, 1000-grain yield, hulling %, kernel length, kernel breadth, L/B ratio, kernel elongation after cooking, kernel elongation ratio and amylose content. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences for all the traits under study. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for plant height, number of grains per panicle, biological yield per plant and grain yield per plant.
