Abstract:
In the present investigation phenotypic variability among 36 rice genotypes were studied for assessing their genetic variability and yield performances. Observations were recorded on 11 quantitative characters such as days to 50% flowering, plant height, number of effective tillers per plant, flag leaf area, panicle length, number of fertile grains per panicle, 1000 grain weight, fertility percentage, grain yield per panicle, harvest index and plot yield. The study exhibited significant genetic variations among the genotypes. High degree of heritability (>80%) was observed in all the characters except fertility percentage, effective tillers per plant and harvest index where the heritability estimates were moderate. The plot yield varied from 15.72q/ha in OR 1912-32 to 59.30 q/ha in OR 22347-10.The overall yield was 39.39q/ha. The variety OR2324-14, Pratikshya, OR 2310-12, ORM 601-3 and OR 2324-38 showed promising yield responses than the other genotypes tested.
